Dental Implant

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed in the jawbone where teeth are missing. Dental implants have become increasingly popular because they provide a strong, secure anchor for artificial replacement of teeth. With dental implants, your new teeth will look, feel and function like natural teeth, allowing you to eat and smile with confidence. They can also help to preserve facial structure and prevent bone deterioration that may occur as a result of missing teeth.

Dental implants are designed to look the same as normal teeth. It is why dental implants have become the best treatment for restoring smiles. They have a natural feel which other treatments can’t always achieve. A maxillofacial surgeon can fit a titanium foundation to anchor as many teeth as necessary depending on the extent of the treatment.

Why Get Dental Implants?

Restoring Functionality and natural aesthetics are the main reason patients choose dental Implants. They are often reported to be more comfortable that alternatives like bridges or dentures.

Lost teeth can negatively impact your appearance and self-esteem.  When your smile is missing teeth it can be socially challenging.  A confident smile can work wonders socially and professionally. Whilst appearance is not the most important thing dental implants can help if you struggle with any of these issues.

Physically speaking, eating certain foods can be difficult missing teeth. Dental implants can open new opportunities when it comes to varying your diet because of your new implants. With this treatment, you don’t have to stick to   easy to chew food, you can eat healthily and with more freedom of choice.

The Dental Implant Treatment

Before undergoing a dental implant procedure our surgeon first identifies that you are a viable candidate by assessing the site to see if it has enough tissue for the implant. The procedure is performed with mild anesthesia with or without sedation. If the implant location still has a tooth present it will require the dentist to extract it first. Bone grafts can be used to treat people with inadequate tissue.

When working in the upper jaw or the back of the mouth, the surgeon may have to perform a sinus lift.

The surgeon uses a specialized drill to place the titanium post. After this  a healing cap is placed over the implant the gum is stiched to facilitate healing.

Once the area has healed, the dentist will place the dental crown, which is molded to your exact requirements.
